The rainy season 2006 is predicted to be complex because various heavy rains and floods may happen. Meanwhile, the process of repairing dykes, embankments and drains is processing slowly. Urgent projects still face difficulties in site clearance or lack of capital.

TYPHOON DAMREY: 68 DEAD OR MISSING, 22 INJURED (03/10/2005)
Ha Noi (VNA 10/01/2005) - Typhoon Damrey, which struck on Sept. 26 and 27, left 68 persons dead or missing and 22 injured, 4,522 houses destroyed and 95,134 others submerged, according to the Central Committee for Storm and Flood Control.
STORM KILLS ONE AND BREAKS DYKE IN NORTHERN PROVINCES (02/08/2005)
Ha Noi, July 31 (VNA) - One person was killed and 40 m of dyke was broken by a tropical storm that ravaged the northern provinces of Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh on July 31, according to the Central Committee for Storm and Flood Control.
FLOOD CONTROL PLANNING FOR THE RED RIVER DELTA (14/07/2005)
In recent years, big floods frequently happened in countries of the world and the region. The century flood occurred in 1998 in China is a warning of the climatic variation which caused big floods in river basins with high frequencies. Vietnam is one of the countries that suffer from impacts caused by global climate changes. Unfavorable climatic elements have increased and known sudden changes such as the August 1996 flood due to a combination of floods Nos. 2 and 4 with high tides. Hoa Binh Reservoir on Da River opened its gates during the biggest flood on Da River in last 100 years. Exceptionally the Mekong Delta has suffered in the year 2000 the unprecedented biggest and long flood in last 70 years. It is clear that flood tendency increases, floods happen with higher frequency and larger impact areas in comparison with floods occurred early of the century.
RED RIVER DELTA RESIDENTS GET READY FOR FLOODS (12/10/2004)
